No matter what your job is, you should always be safe in your work environment. Safety is job number one in any work environment. Unsafe work environments can range from fall hazards, unsafe energy control hazards, unsafe job practices or unsafe equipment, to name just a few.
Whatever the job entails and wherever it is taking place, worker safety should be a given. This, unfortunately, was not the case in a recent incident that took place in Farmington, Pennsylvania at a woodlands resort.
Two resort workers were in the process of closing a summertime facility for the season. They were using a high-reach lift to complete the job when the high-reach lift overturned.
Two medical helicopters responded to the incident and both workers ended up being transported to a hospital in West Virginia for further evaluation. The extent of their injuries was unknown at the time.
There was also no indication as to what caused the accident in the first place. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) said it was looking into the incident.
It is not uncommon that a workplace incident of this type occurs. Forklift accidents and other aerial lift accidents are unfortunately a common occurrence.
They can happen for many different reasons. Improper maintenance of the machine can lead to mechanical error, causing the machine to work improperly. A manufacturer error can lead to the machine being defective itself.
If the workers using the machine were not qualified or properly trained as to the proper use of it, that could have also lead to an accident taking place. Now, these injured workers will most likely be looking at time away from work, lost wages, and medical expenses depending on the nature and extent of their injuries.
It is important for them, and anyone who has been injured in the workplace or while on the job, to contact an experienced personal injury lawyer.
