Potential Legal Issues and Considerations

This incident raises several important legal issues that the Matzus Law team is prepared to address if you or a loved one has been injured in this Pittsburgh tragedy:

Workplace Safety Regulations

As this was a construction site accident, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will likely conduct a thorough investigation to determine if there were any violations of workplace safety regulations. This could include an examination of the site’s safety protocols, the use of personal protective equipment, and the overall supervision and training of the construction workers.

Premises Liability

The property owner or the construction company responsible for the site may be held liable under premises liability laws if it is found that they failed to maintain a safe environment for individuals on the premises. This could include issues such as inadequate signage, poor site management, or hazardous conditions that contributed to the accident.

Workers’ Compensation

If the deceased woman was an employee of the construction company or a subcontractor, her family may be entitled to workers’ compensation benefits. This could include coverage for medical expenses, lost wages, and death benefits.

Wrongful Death Lawsuit

As Jason Matzus, founder of Matzus Law, observed, “Depending on the circumstances of the accident, the family of the deceased woman may have grounds to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the responsible parties. This could include the construction company, the property owner, or any other entities that may have contributed to the accident through negligence or recklessness.”

Criminal Liability

In some cases, construction accidents can result in criminal charges if there is evidence of gross negligence, willful disregard for safety, or other criminal acts.
