About Butler, Pennsylvania

Butler is a small but important city located in Butler County, Pennsylvania. Butler, which is the county seat, is situated approximately 35 miles away from Pittsburgh. In the early 1900s, Butler was known for manufacturing of railcars. Standard Steel Car Company ran a large manufacturing plant out of Butler and produced all-steel rail cars. At the time, more than 2,500 workers were employed by the facility to produce 60 railroad cars each day. In 1982, the manufacturing facility closed down for good, eventually being replaced by a strip mall. Although the city has suffered through its fair share of economic decline, an early Ford dealership still remains in Butler, PA.
