Three People Killed in Head-On Collision in North Huntingdon

Three people were killed – with two others being seriously injured – as a result of a head-on collision that took place over the weekend on Route 30 in North Huntingdon, PA. The names of the victims have not yet been released and the details about what caused the crash are still under investigation.

What Happened

According to a police report released by the North Huntingdon Township Police Department, a vehicle traveling westbound on Route 30 crossed over into the eastbound lane, striking another vehicle head-on. The crash reportedly occurred around 6:00pm near the Jim Shorkey Mitsubishi dealership.

Emergency personnel closed down portions of Route 30 for more than four hours but have since reopened. While law enforcement was able to determine how the accident occurred, an investigation is still underway to find out what caused the westbound driver to vear into the other lane.

Possible Causes of Head-On Collision

A head-on collision can occur for a number of reasons, including:

  • Drunk driving
  • Fatigued driving
  • Distracted driving
  • Failure to adhere to traffic laws
  • Poor weather conditions and/or low visibility
  • Driver error

Head-on collisions, like other types of motor vehicle accidents may also be caused by a defective auto part such as brake systems, wheels and tires. While all car accidents can result in traumatic injuries, the injuries one can sustain in a head-on collision are often catastrophic, requiring surgery, rehabilitation and in some cases, lifelong care.
